I have a theory that sexuality-based practices may have been the earliest form of trauma therapy we utilised.
35000 years ago…
Some of the world’s oldest drawings (over 35000 years old) found in caves in South Western France show images that may suggest this.
In some of them, we see a shaman lying back with an erection with animals around him, which might suggest he might be taking people on a healing journey with sexuality. (Animals were symbolic of the shamanic journey through altered states).
Around 2300 BC
In the chambers of ancient temples, sacred prostitutes would support warriors and politicians in healing PTSD in times of crisis with an act of lovemaking.
Sacred prostitutes were priestesses who were followers of the goddesses of crops and fertility in their cultures (such as Inanna in Sumeria and Hathor in Egypt or Aphrodite in Greece.)
Significantly, the first recorded writer still known today is Enheduanna, a priestess and follower of the goddess Inanna, whom she would write about at length.
This is why I love doing the work that I do.
I continue to see how embodied practices of energy work and sexuality allow people to heal old and tenacious wounds.
And while these ideas may seem radical, alternative, and untested, they may just be the oldest of all…

Our 8-day journey in Cairo will be a somatic and shamanic dive into deep realms of inner exploration. We will explore attunement as a form of death and rebirth in ways that are inspired by ancient Egyptian practices. We will gather in a powerful bedouin style traditional sound dome by the saqqara pyramid complex. The central pillar of our time together will be a 48-hour deep ritual process involving 3 private ceremonies in sacred monuments: Saqqara, the sphinx, and the great pyramid.
