One of the main recurring discussions I have had about shamanism over the years relates to culture and appropriation.
Some try to limit it to Peru, to the native tribes of North America, some to Mongolia.
But shamanism is not cultural.
It’s a function that is intrinsic to humanity and has existed across many cultures in many ways.
This is true of sexual shamanism as well.
What I learned from my own ancestry, the Egyptians and the Greeks is this.
The Egyptians built sex directly into shamanic ritual involving the blue lotus, temple chambers, orgies.
In that union, two beings’ resources merged into one, and for that moment, past and future dissolved into pure presence.
The Greeks went a different way.
Sexual fantasy was a language, a map pointing to what’s missing to be more whole.
A shaman would sit with an initiate and determine which archetype was calling.
